| Rules applicable to the students of the SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Veda Vidya Pitha. |
The South Indian Education Society has established the SIES Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Veda Vidya Pitha at its educational complex located at Nerul with the object of propagating Vedic studies in its traditional form as well as to preserve the sanctity and purity of the Vedas, as also to impart vedic education in its traditional form. |
The Society is striving for the creation of an atmosphere which would encourage the young generation to undertake the study and preservation of the ancient scriptures and texts, while at the same time obtaining proficiency in modern education. |
| Education: |
Selected students would be admitted to any recognized school in the neighbourhood, to help them acquire regular academic qualifications, during the duration of their stay with the Veda Vidya Pitha. |
The cost of acquiring the regular education would be met by the Veda Pitha. The students would be required to devote sufficient time to their studies at the regular school. |
Keeping in mind the objectives for which the Veda Vidya Pitha was established, the students would be required to put in sufficient hours of study at the Veda Vidya Pitha, under the able guidance of experienced faculty. Any lapse on the part of the students in attending to the lessons at the Veda Vidya Pitha would be taken as misconduct, invoking severe disciplinary action, of expulsion from the Veda Vidya Pitha and resulting in discontinuing regular education with the recognized school. |
| Leave |
The students would be entitled to 30 days of leave in a year. The annual leave will be availed of by the students during the period May 10 to June 10. |
The authorities reserve the right to cancel the leave of any student or students if they feel that the services of the said student are required for some reason whatsoever. |
| The authorities would be completely closing down the Vidya Pitha premises and facilities during this period. |
| The students would be entitled to emergency leave to go to their native place or the place of residence of their parents / guardians/ on their costs, in case of any serious illness, hospitalisation or death of a family member. |
| Contact with parents/ guardians |
The parents/guardians of the students can telephonically contact the students if they so desire, once a week, on Sunday, to ask after their welfare. The said calls can be made any time between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The parents/guardians cannot call the students on any other day, except in cases of emergency like the death or medical emergency relating to close family members. |
The students can receive written communication from their family members. The Veda Vidya Pitha reserves the right to open these written communications without reference to the students or direct the students to open these communications for their inspection if they so find it necessary. |
| Educational Progress of the students |

The Veda Vidya Pitha authorities will monitor the educational progress of the students during the duration of their stay at the Pitha. |
The students would be required to pass all their regular school examinations with a reasonably good percentage. |
However, taking into consideration the objects for which the Veda Vidya Pitha has been established/ the performance of the students at the Veda Vidya Pitha would be given prime importance. Any irregularity in attendance or in meeting the standards of the Veda Vidya Pitha would result in the termination of the student’s education with the Veda Vidya Pitha and resultant discontinuation of the student’s education at the regular school. |
| Leaving the Campus premises: |
| Save and except for the requirements of the Veda Vidya Pitha, as notified by the management from time to time, the students cannot leave the campus for any reason whatsoever. |
| In case of any emergency, the students can leave the campus with the express written permission of the management |
| Failure to adhere to this rule would entail expulsion from the Veda Vidya Pitha and resultant discontinuance of the Pitha's support for studies at the regular school. |
| Extra -curricular activities: |
The Veda Vidya Pitha encourages the students to actively participate in extra curricular activities which would help the students to acquire a well-rounded education. |
| Visits by parents / relatives: |
The parents / guardians / relatives can meet the students on the campus on any week-end, during visiting hours specified in this behalf by the management, after prior intimation to the management, except in cases of emergency, when they can meet the students on any day at any time. The parents/ guardians/ relatives can meet the students in a common designated meeting area. |
The students cannot leave the campus premises with their parents/ guardians/ relatives for any reason whatsoever, except in cases of emergency when they may do so with the express written permission of the management |
| Dress code: |
The students would be required to follow the prescribed dress code while attending to their classes at the pathashala as also at their regular school. At all other times/ they are required to dress in a manner so as not to cause offence to the general society. |
| Acceptance of gifts/donations: |
The students cannot accept gifts/ donations/ either in cash or in kind from any individual or organization.
In case of receipt of such gifts/ donations, the students are required to forthwith deposit the same with the Vidya Pitha authorities |
Any breach of this rule would result in the immediate expulsion of the student from the Vidya Pitha and consequent discontinuance of support to his studies at the regular school. |
| Misconduct: |
Without prejudice to the generality of the term 'misconduct', as also the breaches set out hereinabove which would be construed as misconduct, the following acts also constitute misconduct. Any student found indulging in any act of misconduct would be immediately expelled from the Veda Vidya Pitha and support to his education at the regular school would also be terminated immediately. |

Wilful insubordination or disobedience, whether alone or in combination with another or others of any order of a superior; |
| 2. |
Going on a strike or abetting, inciting, instigating or acting in furtherance thereof; |
| 3. |
Wilful slowing down in performance of work, or aiding, abetting or instigating any student thereof; |
| 4. |
Theft, fraud, or dishonesty in connection with the Vidya Pitha's activities, property, or reputation, or the theft of property of another student within the premises of the Vidya Pitha; |
| 5. |
Wilful damage to or loss of Vidya Pitha's goods or property or property belonging to another student; |
| 6. |
Misappropriation, whether temporary or otherwise of any amount of the Vidya Pitha lying in his custody during the cause of his student ship or entrusted to him as a part of his duties; |
| 7. |
Taking or giving bribes or any illegal gratification; |
| 8. |
Late attendance on not less than three occasions within a month; |
| 9. |
Habitual breach of any law or any Rule applicable to the Vidya Pitha; |
| 10. |
Collection without the permission of the Vidya Pitha of any money within the campus; |
| 11 |
Engaging in trade or business while a student of the Vidya Pitha; |
| 12. |
Drunkenness, riotous, disorderly or indecent behaviour on the premises of the Vidya Pitha or such behaviour which, though committed outside the Vidya Pitha campus, brings the Vidya Pitha or its activities, reputation or goodwill into disrepute; |
| 13. |
Commission of any act subversive to discipline or good behaviour whether committed on or outside the premises of the Vidya Pitha; |
| 14. |
Habitual neglect of work, or gross or habitual negligence; |
| 15. |
Breach of any rules or instructions for the maintenance of the cleanliness of any portion of campus; |
| 16. |
Wilful damage to work in process or to any property of the Vidya Pitha or the campus; |
| 17. |
Holding a meeting inside the premises of the establishment, without the previous permission of the Vidya Pitha authorities; |
| 18. |
Disclosing to any unauthorised person any information in regard to the activities of the establishment which may come into the possession of the student; |
| 19.. |
Gambling within the campus; |
| 20. |
Smoking or spitting on the premises of the Vidya Pitha or the campus; |
| 21. |
Consumption of non-vegetarian or other prohibited food or intoxicants or banned liquid refreshments or aiding or abetting in the consumption of non-vegetarian or other prohibited food or intoxicants or banned liquid refreshments; |
| 22. |
Failure to observe safety instructions notified by the authorities or interference with any safety device or equipment installed within the establishment. |
| 23. |
Distributing or exhibiting within the premises of the campus establishment hand-bills, pamphlets and such other things or causing to be displayed by means of signs or writing or other visible representation on any matter without previous sanction of the Vidya Pitha authorities; |
| 24. |
Unauthorised possession of any lethal weapon on the premises; |
| 25. |
Frequent repetition of any act or omission for which the student has been warned several times. |
| 26. |
Sexual harassment which includes such unwelcome sexual determined behaviour (whether directly or by implication) as - |

Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non verbal conduct of sexual nature |

Conviction in any court of law for any criminal offence including those involving moral turpitudes |

Giving false information regarding one's name, age, qualification; |
| 29. |
Publicising, publishing or causing to be published any news or information which portraits the Vidya Pitha or its sister Institutions in a poor light or brings them into disrepute; |
| 30. |
Threatening, abusing or getting into quarrels either physical or verbal with fellow students, teachers or the Vidya Pitha authorities; |
| 31. |
Habitual borrowing of money; |
| 32. |
Any other act or omission which may be construed by reasonable persons as misconduct |
| All these acts of misconduct would entail immediate expulsion from the Vidya Pitha and consequent discontinuance of support for the education at the regular school. |
| Expulsion / rustication of the student at the regular school / action taken against the student in the school for serious breaches of discipline would entail immediate expulsion of the student from the Vidya Pitha. |
On the successful completion of the student's education at the Veda Vidya Pitha, the Board of Management would be gifting the student a sum of Rs. 1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh) only in the form of fixed deposits, jointly with the Veda Vidya Pitha for a period of five (5) years. After the first redemption of the fixed deposit, the student is entitled to use the gifted money, along with the interest accrued thereon, in the manner that he desires. |
| The Board of Management reserves the right to add/ delete or amend these rules. |
